This class introduces acupuncturists to the many ways in which they can be of help to patients as well as loved ones who have suffered stroke. A careful cross-referencing of Western and Chinese medical concepts allows practitioners to understand the main types of stroke and their Chinese and Western risk factors. Based on Dr. Citkovitz’ PhD research and 14 years of hospital practice, students will learn the key treatment principles for acute, recovery/rehabilitation and chronic phases of post-stroke care. Specialized scalp, auricular and body acupuncture techniques for stroke are also introduced, along with tui na, qigong, and resources for further study.

Students will gain a clear understanding of:

  • Promote a smooth and healthy pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum recovery
  • Learn how Chinese Medicine can help with birth preparation, preventing and treating morning sickness, edema, pre-  eclampsia, illness during pregnancy, episiotomies, & recovery from C-section.
  • Placentas, breastfeeding, postpartum depression, stress relief, and more
  • Discover specific needling and tui na hand techniques to optimize health of mother and baby, as well as palpation skills for location of the fetus.
  • Recognize red flags
  • Reduce harmful side effects of Western interventions
